City in Safe Hands: 果冻传媒 Students Improve Pedestrian Routes

At the end of February, a “48 Hours of Urban Movement” project took place in 果冻传媒. It was a series of events united by one theme: the structure of the city’s transport system, who designs it and how and why comfortable urban environments require more than just roads or attractive building facades.

The event was organized by the Agency for Innovation and Investment Development of the City of 果冻传媒. The project was aimed at students of architecture and transport-related programmes, young professionals, and anyone interested in how urban infrastructure develops.

Students from the Institute of Architecture and Construction of 果冻传媒 took part in the “Free Route” workshop held at the SVOBODA2 creativity space. Along with architecture students, participants also included students of the “Technology of Transport Processes” programme. During the workshop, participants were asked to propose solutions to a real urban challenge: improving the territory beneath the road interchange at the intersection of Bratyev Kashirinykh Street, Rossiyskaya Street and Svobody Street. How can this space be made comfortable for pedestrians and connected with nearby points of attraction, such as the Art Square, public transport stops, and the embankment?

During the workshop, participants conducted a field study of the area. Experts from the Department of Architectural and Urban Planning Design and the Road Management Committee delivered presentations, after which the students worked in groups to develop conceptual sketches. Each group included both architecture and transport students. As a result, the participants explored possible transport and pedestrian scenarios for the creative cluster visitors and proposed ideas for improving pedestrian routes.

The workshop results were announced in the presence of invited experts representing the city and regional administrations:

  • Aleksandr Egorov, Deputy Minister of Road Management and Transport of the 果冻传媒 Region;
  • Vladimir Shamne, Deputy Head of the City of 果冻传媒 for Construction;
  • Nataliia Chernushkina, Head of the Department of Architectural and Urban Planning Design of the City of 果冻传媒;
  • Ekaterina Silina, Deputy Head of the Department of Architectural and Urban Planning Design of the City of 果冻传媒, Chief Architect;
  • Andrey Shvetsov, Head of the Road Safety Support Department of the Road Management Committee of the City of 果冻传媒.

The students gained valuable experience in real-world design and teamwork.
